Data Engineer

Location: Lyon, France
Compensation: €60–80k + BSPCE (Stock Options)

About Us

At Wavo, we are building the future of inventory financing. For SMEs, inventory is both an opportunity and a constraint. It ties up cash, limits growth, and creates risk. Traditional financing solutions are slow, rigid, and based on financial history rather than real-time business potential.

We take a different approach. Wavo buys and finances inventory upfront, without debt or personal guarantees. Businesses can scale faster, improve cash flow, and focus on growth without financial friction.

We raised €3.5M to accelerate our growth and expand our platform. Our ambition is to build the leading inventory financing infrastructure in Europe.

Data sits at the core of this ambition. It drives our financing decisions, supports our risk models, and helps us assess the value and quality of the inventory we finance.

The role

As a Data Engineer at Wavo, you will play a central role in building and evolving our data platform.

You will work across the full data lifecycle: ingesting external sources, modelling reliable datasets, shipping production pipelines, and publishing data that directly powers our product and operations. This is a high-impact engineering role with direct exposure to real business decisions.

You will work day-to-day with David, our Founding Data Engineer, and closely with Tanguy (Product), Maxence and Pierre-Antoine (Software), and the Ops team.

We are still a small team, which means a high level of ownership, fast feedback loops, and broad technical scope. You will contribute across solution design, infrastructure, DevOps, and product-related challenges.

Our technical approach

At Wavo, technology supports a demanding business. Fintech requires strong standards around data reliability, traceability of decisions, and system stability. Our technical choices reflect that: we favour proven, observable, and resilient solutions.

We also expect a strong command of AI tools applied to engineering, whether to accelerate development workflows or to build AI-powered capabilities directly into our platform.

Our data stack:

  • Architecture : Medallion Lakehouse, organised by business domain
  • Compute : Lambda, Fargate (serverless)
  • Storage & Catalog : S3, Glue Data Catalog, Athena
  • Orchestration : Step Functions, EventBridge
  • DevOps : CloudFormation, SAM, GitHub, Sentry
  • Languages : Python (uv, Ruff), SQL, Shell

What you will do

  • Own the full lifecycle of data projects: from solution design and infrastructure to DevOps and production deployment.
  • Work on a platform with high business complexity (finance, cash flows, risk), with stringent reliability and traceability requirements.
  • Contribute to high-value business initiatives, including the orchestration of AI agents for data ingestion, document analysis, and assessment of our clients’ financial health.
  • Participate in architectural decisions and technical trade-offs.
  • Write readable, robust, and maintainable code, with a high standard of quality.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of platform quality, performance, and security.
  • Collaborate closely with Software and Ops teams to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions.

Profile we are looking for

  • 3+ years of experience in data engineering.
  • Significant experience designing and implementing cloud data architectures (preferably on AWS).
  • Strong command of Python and SQL.
  • A genuine care for code quality and engineering best practices.
  • Comfortable in an environment where problems are rarely well-defined upfront.
  • Strong ability to design robust and scalable architectures.
  • At ease with complex and critical production systems.
  • Pragmatic and structured engineering mindset.
  • Autonomy and ownership: you take a topic, you drive it all the way to production.
  • Based in Lyon or willing to relocate: minimum 3 days/week on-site. 🍻

Bonus

  • Interest in finance, credit risk, or financial data analysis.
  • Experience in an early-stage startup.

Why Join Us?

  • Competitive compensation: fixed salary + BSPCE
  • A key role in a well-funded, fast-growing fintech.
  • The opportunity to build something from scratch and own the entire data stack.
  • A direct impact on Wavo’s financing and risk models.
